| Questions About Summer Camp |
| 4My child is only 9. Can they still attend? |
| |
|
Although we generally say our camp is for kids in middle school through high school, we try to encourage kids of all ages to participate. The interaction among the ages seems to benefit both groups. We have had nine year olds participate in the past and found they really enjoyed being in among the older kids and tinkering with all the different equipment.
Please keep in mind, this isn't a class, so your son or daughter won't have to keep up with anyone, and not everyone is doing the same thing. We'll give your child a few interesting projects to work on, then help them when they get stuck, or re-focus their attention when it begins to wander, but for the most part they'll make progress on their own.
We wouldn't expect the younger kids to have the patience or focus to put together a circuit board or assemble a vehicle from just a pile of hardware, and therefore we have lots of LEGO robotics parts along with instructions and examples. If your child has the patience to work with LEGO (or other similar building kits) for several hours at a time then they'll probably fit in well at Robotics & Beyond.
We also have a few non-robotic building projects for kids who need a break from all the gears, motors and programming. |
| 4Can I bring in the cool stuff I've built at home? |
| |
|
Yes, but not right away. First let us know that you have something you want to bring in, then we'll let you know what day is good.
And please be sure to keep your personal things separate from all the other stuff. If you don't you are bound to lose some or all of what you've built. There are just too many kids and too many parts to keep track of them all. |
