| Summary We have developed a program called the Community Engineering Program (CEP). It is designed to give students an opportunity to be a part of a real engineering project from start to finish. CEP students learn engineering skills and acquire experience unavailable in traditional K-12 science curricula, yet extremely valuable in today's local and global workforce. Students Acceptance to this program requires a student application. The maximum number of students per CEP is 12. While we encourage middle school and high school aged students to apply, please note the ratio of high school to middle school students is roughly 3:1. The application process ensures that there will be an adequate level of interest on each student's part to remain in the program for the full six months. While there is no specific baseline of engineering, electronics or computer science knowledge necessary as a prerequisite to be considered for the CEP, the students must have a willingness to tackle these subject areas. Lead Business Organization The Lead Business Organization (LBO) is considered the beneficiary of the CEP. The LBO need not be an engineering or technology based organization. The LBO should be a local business (Fairfield, Litchfield, New Haven counties) desiring to support and supplement up to a third of the cost of a specific CEP. The LBO will provide a resource for the students and Robotics And Beyond to coordinate and liaison with in order to define and establish the project parameters. The LBO will display the finished product at their place of business and will share project ownership with Robotics And Beyond. Robotics And Beyond Leadership With each CEP we will invite 1 - 2 students who have participated in past CEPs to be a part of the Robotics And Beyond leadership team. These select graduates will assume a leadership role in the project, as well as mentor the younger students, and will receive a small stipend. In addition, the Robotics And Beyond team will invite and involve industry professionals when and where needed during specific aspects of the project. As with all Robotics And Beyond programs, student financial aid will be available where funding allows. Application Process Accepted applicants will be notified on a rolling basis.
